A Man Behind Exquisite Marble Craftsmanship: Maheshwary Marbles

In the bustling city of Coimbatore, there lies a business that has been synonymous with elegance and beauty for over four decades.
Maheshwary Marbles, founded by Shrigopal Rander Maheshwary, started with a simple vision to provide quality marble options to homeowners and architects. Today, it stands as a leading player in the South Indian natural stone industry, offering an array of exquisite marbles and granites sourced from India and beyond. We sat down with the dynamic entrepreneur, Anuraag Maheshwary, to learn about the origins of his business, the journey towards success, and the challenges faced in the ever-evolving world of natural stone.
How did Maheshwary Marbles come into existence, and what inspired you to enter the natural stone business?
Well, it all started in 1978 when we acquired a shipment of exquisite marble for the construction of our family home in Coimbatore. Little did we know that this encounter would lead to the birth of our thriving marble retail business. Renowned architect Ramani Shankar recognized the exceptional quality of the marble and became the catalyst for our venture. His first order planted the seeds of ambition in my father’s mind, and we saw the potential for a retail outlet that could offer a diverse range of choices and personalized services to customers.
When did you personally step into the business, and what unique contributions did you bring?
I joined the business in 1997, and my deep-rooted belief in the significance of homes in everyone’s lives fuelled my passion for marble. It became my avenue to breathe life into our clients’ dreams. One of my proudest accomplishments was introducing Italian marble and engineered marble to the South Indian market, showcasing our dedication to innovation and staying ahead of the curve.
Can you share what makes it unique compared to Indian marbles?
Italian marble is truly unique due to its vibrant hues, captivating textures, and brilliant sheen. It embraces a rich diversity of colors, offering a broader range of options compared to Indian marbles.
Introducing imported marble must have come with its challenges. Can you tell us about some of the obstacles you encountered?
Indeed, introducing imported marble was challenging. At the time, Indian marble and granite were already well-established choices in the market. Convincing architects and clients about imported marble’s beauty and advantages took considerable time and effort. Apart from the costs, so many factors had to be considered. But with persistence and dedication, we succeeded in changing perceptions. Today, imported marble has become a coveted choice for prestigious projects.
How many types of marbles are you manufacturing right now?
We source our marble blocks from quarries in India and other countries. These blocks are then sent to Rajasthan for processing. Our collection has more than 200 varieties of marbles, including various types, such as basic colored marbles, onyx marbles, travertine marbles, and granites, each named after its source to keep things interesting.
What are your steps for customer satisfaction?
We focus on quality. Quality is something we never compromise on when it comes to serving our customers. This foundation has allowed us to keep going and excel in our work. So, you can rest assured that when you choose our products or services, you’ll get nothing short of the best.
After COVID, how has marble industry evolved or changed?
During the whole COVID situation, there were challenges. It was tough, no doubt. But after COVID-19, things have taken a positive turn for the industry. It’s like they’ve come out stronger. People’s mindset has shifted a bit. People are more into the “Spend more and save less” mentality, and it’s working out for them. It’s like they’re making the most out of life after everything that happened during the pandemic. Everybody wants to be in the present. They are not thinking much about the future, and that’s fueling the business boom.
