‘SPB Vanam’ To Spread His Musical Fragrance In Kovai

Some are born great. Some achieve greatness. Some have greatness thrust upon them. And SPB belongs to the second category since he rose to dizzy heights from a humble beginning to win the hearts of the music lovers during his career spanning over 50 years. As to his song ‘Intha Degam Marainthalum Isaiyaal Malarven’, he will blossom through his music forever. ‘SPB Vanam’ by Sirthuli at Central Prison premises stands testimony to this as it would spread the musical fragrance forever.
As part of its green initiative, Siruthuli alongwith ardent fans of SPB had set up ‘SPB Vanam’ by planting saplings of 74 different trees that are mostly used for making musical instruments to signify SPB’s glorious 74 years. A redeeming feature is that the saplings include Sthala Vrikshams which SPB had rendered in praise besides ‘Champaka’ sapling to signify his birth star Ayilyam.
Moreover, each sapling planted at SPB Vanam reveals the popular song rendered by him. SPB’s son SPB Charan inaugurated the event through a video while SPB’s sister S P Shailaja planted saplings of jackfruit and mango which are considered to be mostly used for making musical instruments. It may be noted that trees like red sanders, rosewood, neem, mahogany, silver oak, sandalwood, teak, vengai, punnai, karungali, jackfruit, mango and bamboo are used in making musical instruments. Siruthuli managing trustee Vanitha Mohan created Kalam Vanam in 2011 during Dr APJ Abdul Kalam’s 80th birthday by planting 100 bamboo saplings across the bund of Nandankarai check dam.
