Kovaiites Hail Aathupalam-Ukkadam Flyover Extension Work

Local Administration Minister S P Velumani laid the foundation for the extension work of flyover between Aathupalam to Ukkadam junction till Oppanakara Street in the city in the presence of Tamil Nadu Assembly deputy speaker Pollachi V Jayaraman, District Collector K Rajamani, MLAs Amman K Arjunan, VC Arukutty, Ettimadai Shanmugham.
The minister after inaugurating the extension work of flyover said that the earlier it was planned to construct flyover from Ukkadam to Karumbukkadai before the tollgate. However, there were repeated representations from the public seeking to extend the flyover upto Aathupalam junction. Conceding the demand, the chief minister laid the foundation for the works through video conferencing.
And the work on extension of flyover was held yesterday fulfilling the demand of the public at large. Now, the extension of flyover to a stretch of 2.4 km towards Aathupalam connecting Palakkad road and Pollachi road. The work is being executed at a cost of Rs 265.44 crore. Already, the Ukkadam flyover is nearing completion as major portion of the flyover has been completed. He said that the work is expected to be completed by 30 months.
Stating that this flyover will be an important one on Bengaluru-Coimbatore National highway, he said that this will be a landmark in Ukkadam and added that this flyover extension would ease traffic congestion on Aathupalam towards Palakkad road and Pollachi road. Moreover, the vehicles coming from Kerala and from southern districts can easily cross this stretch.
This is a 30 year long demand of the people of Coimbatore, he said adding that the Tamil Nadu government is fulfilling all the demands of the people paving the way for the overall development of the city.
